This page sets out how content on Diabetic Foot Guide is researched, written, reviewed and corrected — and what we will not do.
Who writes and reviews
All clinical content is written or reviewed by Dr. Tom Biernacki, DPM, FACFAS, a double board-certified podiatric foot and ankle surgeon in active practice. Pages carry a named author. Where a page has been substantially updated, the date of the update is shown.
How claims are sourced
- Clinical figures — incidence, recurrence, healing times, mortality — are taken from peer-reviewed literature and cited with a DOI link, not paraphrased from other websites.
- Coverage and payment rules are taken from the issuing authority — Medicare policy articles and local coverage determinations — rather than from summaries of them.
- Where practice varies or the evidence is weak, the page says so. “This is contested” is a legitimate answer and appears where it is true.
- Where a statement reflects the author’s clinical judgement rather than published evidence, it is framed that way.
Products and recommendations
The rule that governs every product page
No product is named as a recommendation unless we can state what was assessed and on what basis. A page that cannot meet that standard carries the reasoning and the criteria, and no pick, until it can.
Where we do recommend, we say what the product is for, who it is not for, and what would make us change our mind. Commercial relationships are disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page. A commission never determines a clinical position, and no manufacturer has editorial input, review rights, or advance sight of any page.
What we will not publish
- Cure claims for conditions that cannot be cured, or timelines the evidence does not support.
- Diagnosis by article. Pages describe patterns; they do not tell a reader what is wrong with their foot.
- Photographs of identifiable patients, or any clinical image without documented consent and de-identification.
- Content that discourages someone from being seen. Where a page can only responsibly say “this needs examining”, that is what it says.
Corrections
If you believe something here is wrong, email michiganfootdoctors@gmail.com with the page and the specific claim. Substantive corrections are made and noted on the page. We would rather be corrected than consistent.
